As well as being the season of preparations for Christmas, Advent also marks the start of the Church’s Liturgical year.

At the Second Vatican Council a change was ordered to the readings used during Sunday Mass to allow those attending Mass to become more familiar with the Bible.

As a result we now have 3 cycles of readings (named cycle A, B and C) based on the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke.

This year we are in Cycle C which is based around the Gospel of Luke.
