Some 18 months after first starting their preparation to receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist, the Children finally got to may their ‘First Holy Communion’ on Saturday the 19th of June.
In a journey that has included 8 (or 9) preparation sessions, a first (and second) confession and a lot of uncertainty the day arrived. At last!
Although a slightly smaller Mass than usual, due to COVID restrictions, the children and their families joined together to celebrate this special day. All of the children looked radiant in their dresses and ties. Canon Alan spoke about how the journey for the children reflected those of the early Christians when preparing to join the family of God fully could take a long time. This period of waiting just adding to the excitement of finally entering fully into our relationship with our Father.
The children participated in the Mass by saying the bidding prayers and carrying the offertory before the time came for them to receive communion for the first time.
Many thanks to our catechists, teachers, parents and carers and, of course, our children for their dedication and patience. We are looking forward to you joining with us as your journey in faith continues.
