CAFOD has invited us to join them in a campaign called “Reclaim our Common Home”, which is a response to the Coronavirus pandemic, based on Catholic social teaching and the encouragement of Pope Francis.

This year, the UK is hosting both the G7 annual meeting (Cornwall on 11-13 June 2021) and the COP26 conference (Glasgow on 1-12 November 2021) on climate change, so we are in a unique position to try and influence our leaders to tackle the climate crisis, and unjust debts, and hold business accountable for its actions.

What action are we going to take?

As Catholics, we are called not to stay silent and not to be passive. This is why Reclaim Our Common Home is a call to action! It’s a call to participate both individually and collectively in rebuilding a more dignified and sustainable world after the pandemic.

To do this we need to:

  • RECLAIM nature so that everyone can breathe clean air and be protected from the threat of climate disasters.
  • RECLAIM the world’s land and resources so they are more fairly distributed and all our brothers and sisters around the world can live in dignity.
  • RECLAIM power so that everyone can be involved in decision making and have control over their own lives.

We have arranged a virtual meeting with our local MP (Mr Matt Vickers) a “Parliament in your Parish” to put our concerns to him and learn about what work he is involved in within Parliament on these issues.

This will take place at 11 am on Friday 18th June 2021. If you wish to be part of the online community, please email [email protected] to receive instructions on how to join the meeting
