From their different perspectives, the national media have made great deal this week of the letter written in preparation for the General Election by the Bishops of the Church of England – our own Bishops will be releasing a letter on Tuesday 24 February.

In our own Diocese a contribution towards preparing people for the election has been put together by the Core Group of Caritas Diocese of Middlesbrough. This takes the form of a four page feature in the centre of the edition of Catholic Voice which should be available for your parish this weekend.

This centre page feature is intended to help people think through their priorities when using their vote in the General Election from the perspective of Catholic Social Teaching. I would like to ask if you would make a particular effort to encourage parishioners to take copies of the Catholic Voice home with them.

If you felt it would be helpful in your parish the Election Feature could be used in groups, either groups that already exist such as Justice and Peace, Catholic Women’s League or SVP, or groups that you might invite to come together to consider the issues facing voters.

Please pick up a copy of The Voice at Mass.

A link to the electronic version of the Catholic Voice can be found here.

Many thanks,

Very Rev Canon Derek Turnham EV

Episcopal Vicar for Christian Discipleship/Diocesan Communications Officer
